Unifi Controller
Local and remote accounts
A local account is a combination of a username and password, and can only be used on the internal network (accessing the Unifi Controller's IP address directly.)
A remote acccount consists of an email and a password, and enables one to access the network from somewhere else (say, if you are visiting your family for a week and need to do some tweaking.) One would then access the Unifi dahsboard via https://unifi.ui.com/
It is possible for an account to be both, which is the case for our root account, network, which is also accessible remotely via the network@amaravati.org email account.
Make sure remote accounts have 2 Step Verification enabled. At present, network@amaravati.org can generate codes either via email, or using the Google Authenticator app on the IT Admin's smartphone.
